"Mirrored Eyes"

Mirrored Eyes” is the final poem in the set “Lucid Landscapes”.

I know that everyone has been going through such varied degrees of grief over the past year. For some people, it has seemed unbearable, and I know many of us have felt alone and naked in the dark, with light far off in the distance, or for some, the complete absence of light. For those who have lost someone and have had to walk most of this year alone, you are what inspired this piece.

The faces below are based on people I know and love, with elements of my own face as well. I wanted to be as original as possible without basing this on a stock photo off the internet. I wanted to capture the expression of grief, but also of loving hope.

In a time of darkness, one can find the inner light within, and provide comfort through deep self love. These images reflect that how we y love others is a direct reflection of how we love and treat ourselves too. In dark times, it is ok to extend the compassion and love to yourself in the same way you would for others. Self care and self love are a beautiful thing, and no one should feel guilty for taking time to practice these things

This piece was completed with Phillip Glass’s album “Portrait” playing on repeat, so his musical textures and layering were also influencing this overall process.
